Brand Crush: Milly

Posted on November 09 2014

We’ve drooled over it for years, but were recently reminded of our love for the brand Milly. Modern, contemporary, but still feminine and brightly colored, this brand epitomizes what we wish we could wear. The brand was started by Michelle Smith, who funded her way through design school by working at the Hermès boutique in New York. After finishing her degree she was granted an internship at the Paris headquarters of Hermès. She returned to the US and Milly was born.

This season they have really outdone themselves. They have taken sheer fabrics and overlaid them with traditional winter fabrics for a super chic look. They’ve also incorporated luxe fabrics and textures like faux furs and ostrich feathers, which up the glam factor. We’ve redone one of our favorite Milly looks that would be perfect for a work holiday party or a date night. Sleek, sophisticated and a touch sexy.

Our Version:

Plus Size Milly Outfit

The black turtleneck is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe. A fitted one like this isn’t the dumpy, grandma sweater you’re thinking of. It’s super chic and emphasizes your hair and makeup. We added the open cardigan, which makes this outfit potentially OK for work. Without it, it maybe too sexy of a look since your curves are on full display. We also winterized this with adorable peep-toe booties. Yes, an oxymoron, we know.
