Red Carpet Style in Plus Sizes

Posted on January 28 2015

The Golden Globes and SAG awards are behind us and the Academy Awards are around the corner. Our favorite part of these shows is obviously the red carpet style. We may not have watched the nominated shows or movies, but we certainly pay attention to the dresses!

Given the timing of these shows, the styles worn often become the top trends in spring evening dress styles. Since spring is prime wedding season, these looks will inspire wedding guests across the country (not to mention gala-goers, prom-goers and the like.) We’ve searched for similar looks to make finding red carpet inspired dresses easy. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many plus size women on the red carpet (at least who are photographed.)
Our favorite red carpet trends translated into plus sized options:
Trend: Grecian-Inspired Literally our favorite dress style ever. It’s classic AND modern and most of all sophisticated. We were thrilled to see this on the red carpet on celebs like Danielle Brooks and Amy Adams. Our version is available in plus sizes on Rent the Runway, which is a great dress rental service. You get two sizes and get to keep it for 4 or 8 days!

Trend: Sparkling Metallics. As seen on Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore. Sparkles galore, make this a pick for a very formal affair.

Trend: Purple Hues. Seen on Camila Alves, Amanda Peet and Keira Knightly. Purple is one of our favorite colors. It’s so regal, yet so versatile, it’s great for all seasons. This plus size pick is also from Rent the Runway.

Trend: YellowAs seen on Naomi Watts and Uzo Abuda. Yellow is so cheery and unexpected at formal events. We’ve chosen a more pastel yellow that makes it easier for all skin tones to wear.

Trend: Belted Dresses. Belts were seen on many starlets including Claire Danes, Salma Hayek and Naomi Watts. We’ve picked this cool metallic skinny belt from Asos, that would look great with the above yellow dress.
