The 5 Fall Trends You Should Try
Posted on August 14 2015
Every season comes with trends that seem downright ridiculous (parachute pants, mom jean shorts), a few no brainers (all black, obi belts) and many in between. We want to share our favorite fall trends that fall somewhere between the two extremes. Our picks are specifically for plus sizes and are a good way to stay current without risking looking like a fashion victim. Just because we wear above a size 14 doesn’t mean we have to play it safe in terms of trends! We hope we help you try something new this fall.
Alice and Olivia, Elizabeth and James and Thakoon, all featured turtlenecks on their runways. The utilitarian staple was everywhere during Fashion Week. The safe way to rock this trend is with skinny jeans and booties, but we love it best layered under a dress. This is a super fashion forward way of keeping warm-weather pieces into your wardrobe through fall/winter.
We love this simple black merino wool pick. It's under $100 from Zappos!
Veronica Beard, J.Crew and Frame all showcased flare leg bottoms. Take a break from your skinny jeans and pick some flares instead. Flare leg pants elongate your legs especially by wearing them with high heels or chic wedges. Flares always seem to come back into fashion. That’s because they are universally flattering. Don’t forget to tailor your pant to the correct length. This will keep your look chic, not messy. Our pick is by CJ by Cookie Johnson. They have a nice mid rise, stretch fabric and trouser hem.
Faux Fur Stole.
Add a feminine, polished touch to any outfit with the help of a faux-fur stole. Throw it over just one shoulder to make it feel more modern and edgy. Furs (faux or real) are real attention grabbers. Oftentimes plus size women want to blend in versus stand out...we hope you welcome the attention you’ll get from adding this posh trend to your fall wardrobe.
This faux fur stole from Anthropologie is $78!
Altuzarra and Banana Republic showed chunky knits. Nothing says fall like a knit sweater. We love that oversized cable knits are in this fall! Functionally warm and fashionable! Plus size women are often scared away by the extra bulk a thick knit sweater adds...the solution is a wider, more open knit. If you can see through the knit of the sweater, it doesn’t appear to add bulk. Just use a cami for a base layer :) We picked our own navy and silver chunky knit. It has a great open weave that looks great over base layers.
Basic black tights will always be on trend and chic, but why not experiment with cool patterns or colors? Florals, geometric shapes and wild colors were all over the runway. A good way to break into this trend is with black patterned tights. They’re a chic complement to an all black outfit, but make a statement. We like these diamond print fishnets from Lane Bryant.
