Celeb Style Envy: Jamie Chung

Posted on August 21 2015

During our daily style inspiration search (i.e. getting lost down the wormhole of celeb news websites) we came across this photo of Jamie Chung in Hollywood. We admit, we weren't super-familiar with her, but we were crazy in love with this outfit. Turns out Jamie is a former Real World cast member from forever ago. She's been an actual actress ever since, she also (not surprisingly) has a chic fashion blog called What the Chung. Fun fact: she’s engaged to one of our crushes, Bryan Greenberg (the cutie from How to Make it in America!)

What we love about this outfit are the contrasts. The masculine jean button down with the feminine skirt, the white and the black monochrome, the full length sleeves and the open toes. These contrasts are style principles that instantly up the chic factor.

This outfit is great for us plus size women, too. A-line skirts like this are super flattering because they skim over hips and thighs. Tucking your top in also emphasizes the natural waist.

There are a couple things we would change about this look to make it better for us curvy girls. Firstly, button the top! Get a plus size denim shirt that fits your bust to avoid adding an extra camisole layer. Secondly, try a stiffer fabric skirt if you like to camouflage  your lower half. Lastly, for accessorizing this look, we’d opt for a pop of color with a bright solid bag.

Here are our picks for plus size skirts:

A black accordion pleated plus size skirt from Torrid, a stiffer color blocked midi from Eloquii, and a box pleated black and white polka dot skirt from Lane Bryant

For the rest of the outfit, we've chosen a medium wash denim shirt of ours that would be a great transitional piece and/or a lighter wash denim shirt from Torrid. Depending on your preference and occasion we like both a high-heel ankle strap sandal and this pointed toe flat with ankle strap. We picked this basic satchel because of the gorgeous fuchsia color (it's available in a rainbow of other colors too). Dark sunnies are a must for this look! These are under $100 by Warby Parker  and lastly we love this personalized pendant from Bauble Bar.
